The Happenings

The DeWind household has been a busy household and sorry for the long period of no posting again! Emily has learned how to do quite a bit recently and she is becoming a crazy 2 year old full of becoming Ms. Independent and wanting to be the Big Girl. She has recently learned how to open up doors. And when I say doors, I mean ALL doors. She knows how to open up the lever kind, the kind with a regular door knob and even the electronic doors at Meijer. This was a discovery that Matt and I made one day when she had something that we didn't get her and we noticed a door open. She has been closing doors for a very long time and we didn't think anything of it, but the opening of doors was not something that we knew she knew how to do.

Emily's speech is improving daily. She is making great strides and now has an even larger vocabulary. She was recently re-tested and still has a delay in language development but everything else was on schedule or ahead, including fine and gross motor skills, social skills. So, we continue with Early On but we now have moved it to just 1 time a month to see if we still see the kind of improvements that we have seen in recent months. She has even started to put 2 words together, which were Sorry Doggie. She hit poor Maggie in the head with a stool and she just said Sorry Doggie.

Emily is going through a growth spurt I think at this point. She is eating everything in sight and is hungry all the time. She also is a little cranky and clingy lately, but we are working on the wanting to be carried everywhere, the whining, throwing and yelling. Everytime she does one of those things, we put her in a time out. Sometimes the time out works right away and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't she often stays in her corner and refuses to come out. We are also working on saying sorry when she does something naughty.

The house is slowly starting to look like Christmas and Emily is wanting to carry all the decorations around the house. She helped me put the Christmas Deer out today and also helped put the boxes in the hallway to be taken back downstairs. In about 2 weeks, I figure we will go and pick out our Christmas tree and have it brought to the house for decorating. Soon, the house will be fully decked out.

Why in these next pictures my daughter does not have any pants on. And that would be a very fair question to ask, considering I asked her the same thing! We got home that day from daycare and Emily was wearing her Bibs that day. I told her to take off her coat and shoes, well when she did that she decided it really meant take of your pants! So, she proceeded to take off her pants and when I tried to intercept and stop it, she yelled at me. I decided it wasn't worth an argument trying to get her to keep her pants on, so I let her take them off. She walked around in just her pink shirt, diaper and pink shoes and socks until almost bedtime when she decided it was time to put her pants back on! Go figure!!!!

Another lesson learned that day

The same morning of the chocolate muffin incident, I also learned another lesson.

I am a fairly short person, so that means that I use stools on a regular basis around the house when I need to reach really high items. Well, apparently, Emily has been watching me, since she has now learned how to use stools and/or chairs for anything that she wants that is out of her reach! Well this particular morning, I was in the shower when I heard Emily saying, "Apple, Apple" and I keep telling her I will get her an apple as soon as I get out of the shower. When I get out, I am greeted at the door with my daughter chowing down on a WHOLE apple! So, I of course, had to go get my camera and here are the pictures... I also learned that day that she will eat an apple with the peel on, so that means that I no longer take the skin off the Apple!!!!

Muffin Girl

Our Sunday morning ritual includes getting donuts and/or muffins and a newspaper. Emily has quickly learned this tradition and loves it! We are pretty relaxed about where she eats her breakfast on these mornings. This particular morning it was a chocolate chip muffin, which is one of her favorites! I normally don't give her the whole thing and I quickly learned why I control the chocolate chip muffin a little more....

Trick or Treat

Emily was very unsure of trick or treating this year. She wanted to be carried the entire time and did not want to say trick or treat. Even though I had been working on trying to get her to say it all day! It was of course cold for trick or treating, so the poor girl had a lot of layers on and we discovered she could still fit in last years winter coat! Especially considering the new one I bought still has the security tag on it! Emily was also insistent upon wearing her pink boots and not the pretty pink shoes I had bought especially for the skirt. Oh Well, you win some and you lose some ;)

Once Emily figured out that when you went to houses, you got treats, she wanted to go to every house, regardless if the light was on or not! So trying to explain that to a 2 year old was interesting. We only stayed out for about 40 minutes before we were pretty much done. When Matt and I were done, Matt went to put Emily in her carseat and she threw a fit! She wanted to do more, as she kept telling us!

One thing that I was very impressed with was how many people had little people treats! They had special bowls with cookies and other fruit snacks just for little ones, which I thought was nice! I am going to have to remember that!

Sewing...

Emily apparently has watched me sew so much that she now wants to do it also. She crawled up onto the chair and started playing with the machine.
